There is a sentence in the Diamond Sutra that Professor Jih-Chen Chiang calls the core of the entire sutra:

“Abide nowhere, yet generate the mind.”

It means you can do anything and help anyone, but once it is done, do not keep this matter in your heart. Do not be attached to “what I did” or “how he should repay me.”

This is the so-called “giving without attachment”.

Giving without attachment is: simply giving, then letting go completely, leaving absolutely no trace in your mind.

Why does this work? Professor Jih-Chen Chiang explains it from the high-dimensional “Ontological Field”:

In the highest dimension of the Ontological Field, everyone’s Buddha-nature is like empty space, having no boundaries. Your Buddha-nature and my Buddha-nature are actually the very same thing. Since there are no boundaries, there is neither “you” nor “me”.
